Linear Welding & Fabrication: The Simi Valley Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Linear-compatible weldments and fabricated gate components in Simi Valley, with most frame repairs and bracket fabrication jobs running between $285 and $640 installed depending on the material thickness and whether we’re reinforcing in place or removing the gate leaf. The typical homeowner discovers the problem the hard way: the gate starts sagging, a hinge tears loose from the post, or the operator pushes against a frame that’s quietly rusting from the inside out. By the time it’s visible, the metal has usually lost its structural argument with California’s sun-bleached finishes and the coastal air that works its way into every unsealed weld.

We’re an independent service provider, not affiliated with Linear. What we do is keep their operators on gates that are structurally sound, which sometimes means cutting out failed steel and putting good metal back.

Which Linear Models This Applies To

Linear’s residential line (the LRA, LSO, and APeX series operators) shares a common mounting footprint, but the fabricated components around them vary by installation. The operator bracket that bolts to the gate frame is the piece we weld or replace most often, especially on Linear swing-arm installations where the arm geometry puts constant stress on a small footprint.

The compatibility gotcha for Linear specifically: the APeX series uses a different bracket-to-arm connection than the older LSO models, and swapping one for the other without measuring the arm’s throw means the gate will bind or stall at the end of travel. If you’re unsure which series you have, pull the cover off the operator and look for the model label on the control board. The bracket we fabricate has to match that series, not just fit the gate.

OEM Linear brackets are stamped or cast, and on older installations they’re often discontinued. A quality fabricated bracket in Simi Valley, made from 3/16-inch or 1/4-inch steel, will usually outlast the original by years because we cut it to match the existing hole pattern and gusset the stress points. We make that call on each job, and we’ll show you the OEM part number and the fabricated replacement side by side before we install either one.

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing

Signs Your Linear Welding & Fabrication Is Failing
  • The gate sags noticeably at the latch side. The weld at the bottom hinge or the bracket where the operator arm connects is starting to tear. You can see a hairline crack opening up along the edge of the old weld bead when the gate moves.
  • The operator pushes but the gate hesitates partway through its travel. A bent or cracked bracket changes the arm’s leverage, so the motor is working against a geometry problem instead of just opening the gate.
  • Creaking or popping from the hinge area on every cycle. That’s metal moving against metal where it shouldn’t be, usually a failed weld that’s still holding by friction and habit.
  • Rust staining running down from a weld joint. In Simi Valley, we see powder coating fail along weld lines first because the coating is thinner at the bead’s edge. Once water gets under it, the steel underneath lets go within a season or two.
  • The gate column post moves or leans when the gate cycles. The post isn’t the problem. The bracket pulling on it is the problem, and a cracked bracket transfers force to the post instead of the hinge.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

In Simi Valley, most Linear-related welding and fabrication jobs land between $285 and $640 installed. Here’s what that covers and what moves the number:

  • Bracket fabrication and weld-in: $285-$420, depending on whether we build the bracket off the gate and weld it on, or need to remove the gate leaf to work on a bench.
  • Gate frame crack repair and reinforcement: $180-$380, priced by the linear inch of failed weld and whether we add a gusset plate.
  • Hinge replacement with weld-in new hinge barrels: $220-$390 per hinge, including the fabricated hinge pieces and installation.
  • Full post replacement with fabricated base plate: $480-$900, depending on post size and whether the old post core needs to be drilled out.

The written price is handed to you before any work starts. That’s Haven Standard Clause 1, and it’s not negotiable on our end. Every weld job also includes a photo log: before, during, and after. You’ll see the crack we found, the prep work, the finished weld, and the part number of the bracket or plate that went in. If a weld fails within 365 days, we come back and make it right under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. No fee, no argument.

DIY or Call Us?

Welding gate components is not a weekend project. The welds on an automated gate carry the full force of a motor that doesn’t get tired, and a bracket that fails mid-cycle can throw the gate leaf or drop it off its hinge. A proper repair needs a 220V welder, the right rod or wire for the steel you’re joining, and the knowledge to keep heat from warping the gate frame. We’ve fixed more than a few homeowner welds that looked fine for a month and let go at the worst possible moment.

What you can safely do is identify the problem. Check for cracks at the hinge welds and the operator bracket, note where the rust staining starts, and measure the gate’s sag at the latch side. Take photos. Then call us at (805) 516-0479 and name what you found. We’ll give you a written price before anyone picks up a tool.
